Will there ever be a new season of Bleach? Bleach was first serialized in the Japanese manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2001 to 2016. The manga received an anime adaptation that ran for a total 366 episodes from 2004 to 2012. Although the manga finally came to an end in 2016, the anime was left unfinished. The show was never able to finish Ichigo Kurosaki’s story following the Fullbringer Arc, leaving fans to plead for a new season to see the anime conclude.
The anime series came to an abrupt ending because of poor ratings. The show had lost considerable viewership and Studio Pierrot decided to wrap up the series. Nonetheless, a new Bleach anime could be released sometime in the future.
Bleach character designer Masashi Kudo commented on a possible new anime. When asked what he thought of Bleach now that it is over, Kudo said:
As a manga story it has ended but there are parts that haven’t been made into an anime yet. I talk a lot with the anime staff about things we can do later.
Officially, Kudo has stated that Studio Pierrot has no new plans to develop a new Bleach anime at the moment, but a day may come when the studio is.
If the anime series were green-lit, fans would be able to witness the Thousand Year Blood War story arc brought to life. Since the manga has already ended, the new season wouldn’t be plagued with fillers either.
