Ajin: Demi-Human is a great anime series that is a must watch. The anime centers around mysterious creatures known as Ajin. First discovered in Africa, Ajin are immortal human beings. After their discovery, Ajin were labeled as a threat to humanity and hunted down worldwide. Government organizations perform inhumane experiments on Ajin once they are captured.
The protagonist of the story is Kei Nagai, a high school student wishing to become a doctor. One day on his way to school, Nagai is fatally hit by a truck. To the surprise of everyone around, Nagai slowly starts regaining his consciousness, signaling his rebirth as an Ajin and the start of his days of torment. Nagai runs away, and the police start hunting him down.
Unlike the hundreds of anime series out there following a typical “anime plot”, Ajin has a very unique storyline. After watching the first couple of episodes, I was completely hooked. There are a lot of plot twists, and each episode keeps you wanting more. There are currently 2 seasons out, each containing 13 episodes. In addition to the anime series, there is also a three-part movie released. The movie and the series follow the same story, so I would recommend watching the anime series.
If you are into psychological type anime, and appreciate unique story lines, then give this anime a try. It has a similar feeling to shows like Psycho Pass, Death Note, Zankyou no Terror, Shiki, and Mirai Nikki. If you enjoyed watching any of those anime series, you might like Ajin as well. Out of five stars, I would give this show 4!
