Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, also known as Archenemy & Hero in English, is an anime based off of a light novel series. Directed by Takeo Takahashi, the anime was released on January 5, 2013. It’s a light-hearted, quirky story about a hero and a Demon King.
Legend has it that the hero raised in the palace shall kill the Demon King to stop the ongoing war between the humans and the demons. Surprise struck the hero as he finds out the Demon King is a woman. The hero attempts to continue his mission, but the Demon King charms him with her cute looks and intelligence. She explains to the hero that she would like to stop the war, but as the Demon King, she doesn’t have any true power. She invites the hero to seal a contract between each other and set upon a journey to stop the war.
This story has lots of romance and it’s based in a fantasy land with the perfect amount of action. If you’re not interested in the romance aspect, don’t worry, this series doesn’t fail on its amazing plot and relatable content.
Overall, this anime has a great plot and gorgeous animation. There is a bit of fan service, but nothing too extreme. The logistics of the story are perfectly laid out and it’s very easy to keep track of. The characters are also very dynamic, as you can see them transform mentally and physically within the series. This anime will keep you hooked and leave you wanting more. The only downside is that there’s only 12 episodes. If you enjoyed series like Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon, you’ll certainly love this series. Overall it’s a gorgeous piece and one of my personal favourites.
