Have you ever wondered what life would be like living as a ghoul? For those who are not familiar with the term, ghouls are a carnivorous and cannibalistic species that are only able to feed on humans and other ghouls. They are similar to normal humans in physical and intelligent aspects but have differences in diet, mentality and inner biology. One example is when a human gets bitten by a ghoul they will immediately notice a difference in their diet. A normal human can digest any type of food while a ghoul cannot due to an enzyme that their bodies produce. Ghouls’ tongues are also different from humans as their sense of taste is altered making normal human food taste disgusting. If ghouls try eating normal food they will have a powerful urge to vomit. Aside from this, ghouls are only able to drink water and coffee.
Another example of living life as a ghoul is having more physical capability than a normal human. Ghouls have high physical capabilities that are seven times stronger than the average human. Ghouls are able to send the average human flying with the right amount of force in place. They are also able to penetrate human bodies with their bare hands and are able to jump several meters high. Another aspect to their physical capabilities is their tough bodies which makes them resistant to injuries.
Ghouls possess an organ known as the kakuhou, from which Rc cells harden and break through the skin to form the kagune. The kagune is a hard, muscle-like protrusion described as their claws. It can take the form of a pair of sharp wings or tentacle-like appendages, a tail, or a drill-like object, or even detached from the ghoul, depending on the ghoul’s materials and his or her own Rc type. Ghouls also have an identifying feature known as a kakugan, an affliction manifesting in the eyes as red irises surrounded by a black sclera. A ghoul’s kakugan can appear either by their own will, due to hunger or from using their kagune.
There are cons to living as a ghoul. Ghouls can either assimilate into human society or live as hermits, avoiding society all together. Being suspected of being a ghoul will have investigators either hunt you down and kill you or apprehend you as they see fit.
