Berserk (2016) Episode 1

Berserk (2016) Episode 1
Berserk (2016) just aired it’s first episode today. As expected, Berserk (2016) follows the events after the original 1997 Berserk anime. Although you could probably watch this series without first watching the original anime series, I wouldn’t recommend it. You will probably be really confused, and not fully appreciate the series. I loved the original 1997 Berserk anime, and like other Berserk fans, been waiting for a long time for a new anime adaptation.

Berserk (2016) Episode 1 Recap

Berserk (2016) Episode 1 scene 1
There wasn’t a whole lot going on in the first episode. Guts visits a bar to grab some water, and during his visit, gets into a scuffle with other mercenaries at the bar. Unsurprisingly, Guts quickly takes care of the bandits, and walks out. The bandits had a spirit fairy, named Puck, in their possession, which manages to escape during the scuffle. On his way back, an old man and his daughter riding a carriage offers Guts a ride. Guts initially refuses their offer, saying demonic spirits follow him around, and it’s in their own best interest to go without him. However, the old man manages to convince Guts to get on. Puck is also in the carriage.

Berserk (2016) Episode 1 scene 2
The carriage is attacked by skeletal looking demonic spirits. These evil spirits take the possession of a dead human remains. Guts states that these demonic forces follow him because of a mark on the back of his neck. Guts is able to defeat the monsters, but does take a bit of damage. Unfortunately, both the old man and his daughter get killed. Guts continues on with his journey, with puck following him. Towards the end of the episode, we see Guts surrounded by knights.

I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be after watching this episode. Maybe this is because I had such a high expectation for this series. But it’s only the first episode, so hopefully things get really interesting later on. I can’t say I’m a big fan of the video animation and sound this show took direction. Perhaps I’ll get used to it after watching more episodes, but so far, the style of animation they used is not the greatest. What did you guys think of the first episode? Leave a comment down below!
